About NDRSC

National Disaster Relief Services Center is operating under the Ministry of Disaster Management since 2010 as the relief service arm of the government to support affected population in the country. The Initial establishment of the center called National Disaster Management Centre which was established in 1996 to support the implementation of the global Disaster Management agenda called International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction (1990-99) and obligations to the Yokohama Strategy for Disaster Management.

National Disaster Management Centre was established in 1996 under the Ministry of Social Services and Social Welfare. It came under the Ministry of Disaster Relief Services by the extra ordinary gazette notification No: 1422/22, dated 08/12/2005, in order to plan and implement relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction activities.

It was transferred to the Ministry of Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services with renaming as National Disaster Relief Services Center (NDRSC), by the Gazette Notification No: 1482/9 dated 09/01/2007. It functions under the Ministry of Disaster Management with effect from30/04/2010 with the gazette notification No: 1651/20.

Role of NDRSC

National Disaster Relief Services Centre (NDRSC) is mandated for the post disaster activities such as disaster relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction including following activities.

• Relief management planning of local level with local administration
• Warehouse management at national level and district level
• Event specific contingency planning together with local level stakeholders
• Facilitating early recovery and recovery implementation with the support of line agencies and communities such as house rehabilitation, cash assistance and housing reconstruction

Services carried out by NDRSC

• Provide food during disasters to affected population
• Provide Compensation for injured and dead persons
• Provide Compensation for damaged houses and domestic appliances due to disasters
• Provide Compensation for small and medium scale industries
• Management of local and foreign donations
• Facilitate construction of safe houses for the persons in high risk areas
• Provide other relief assistance
• Implement cash assistance programme for the disaster affected population
